The volunteer Board of Directors manages nine portfolios, each supported by a committee of volunteer members who are responsible for providing value to our members.

Committees

Professional Standards

The goal of the Professional Standards Portfolio is to strengthen professionalism among BC business communicators. To do this, the portfolio team focuses on three areas. We support accreditation by delivering the Accreditation Completion Program (ACP), which brings the chapter eight new ABCs each year. We engage chapter members in the ethical dimension of business communications. And we provide opportunities to evaluate busines communications from inside and outside the chapter through Bronze Quill, Silver Leaf, and Gold Quill judging.

Awards

The Awards Committee is responsible for arranging the chapter's annual awards program, including managing the submission and judging process, and the organization of a gala celebration to honour winners in June.

Communications

With the goal of facilitating communication to, from and among members, the Communications Committee uses a variety of vehicles to keep members informed of industry trends, chapter developments, and upcoming activities. These vehicles include the chapter newsletter "Ragged Right", fax flyers, e-mail bulletins, and this web site. The committee is also responsible for external communications and media relations.

Professional Development

Over and over again, our members tell us they join IABC for professional development and networking opportunities. The Professional Development Committee offers members the opportunity to develop skills, learn more about the communications industry, meet other members and have fun, through a regular schedule of presentations, seminars, workshops, and discussion panels. This year, we are renewing our focus on networking by offering more pure networking events and informal discussions for our members.

Career Development

Jobline is a free, automated job posting service for IABC/BC members. The Career Development Committee works to encourage companies to advertise job openings on the website and to promote use of the service by chapter members.

Member Relations

The Member Relations Committee is responsible for providing current members with hospitality, networking and outreach opportunities, and for recruiting new members.
Coordinating and recognizing volunteer activities is another key responsibility of this committee, as is maintaining the Membership Directory. To update your membership information or to get more information about IABC, contact the Member Relations Committee.

Sponsorship

The Sponsorship Committee is responsible for organizing and managing existing and future sponsorships, developing sponsor strategy, recruiting, recognizing and retaining sponsors, hosting sponsors at chapter events, and maintaining a log to manage and track sponsorships for the benefit of IABC/BC members.

Student Services

Students represent the future strength and growth of the communications profession. The Student Services Committee works to foster a social and career-enhancing environment for networking between student and professional members of IABC. The committee's goal is to provide student communicators with useful resources for career development through workshops, speaker events, social activities and a scholarship award.

Volunteer Services

The Volunteer Services Committee connects individual members with the volunteer opportunities best suited to them. Committee members work together to develop a recruitment plan to ensure volunteer and IABC needs are fulfilled, checks in with volunteers to ensure their expectations are being met, and plans "thank you" programs for all IABC volunteers. More than a quarter of IABC/BC members are involved as chapter volunteers.
