If you're not quite ready to take on accreditation this fall, look for opportunities this year to gain the experience you need. IABC/BC's professional development programs are a great start!
The Quiz:
- Do you have any of the following required combinations of work experience and education?
- Work Experience Education
- Five years Bachelor's Degree or higher
- Six years Three years post-secondary
- Seven years Two years post-secondary
- Eight years One year post-secondary
- Nine years N/A
- Do you understand how communication works within the modern organization?
- Do you have the knowledge, skills and abilities to plan, direct and implement a broad range of communication programs in practical, real-life situations?
- Do you have at least two projects from your experience as a working communicator that you were primarily responsible for (even if you supervised the work of others)?
- Are you familiar with the theory of communication measurement and have you incorporated measurement into your work?
- Do you know the basics of a formal communication plan and do you apply this in your work on a regular basis?
- Have you judged awards entries at any level of IABC?
- Have you personally "sold" your ideas to management or clients?
- Do you abide by the principles of accuracy, truthfulness, sensitivity and IABC's Code of Ethics for Professional Communicators? (see www.iabc.com for more info)
- Are you ready to commit a few hours each month to furthering your career as a professional communicator?
- Have you plotted your competencies and worked through the Communicator's Competency Model?
